The girls came out of the bathroom and walked to the candy aisle. Patrick wandered over to meet them there. I stood at the end of the aisle, watching and waiting. “Ooh I love those,” Kay said as Alyssa picked up a bag of something. “I’ll share,” Alyssa said back. Patrick was standing behind them. He smacked both their asses – one with each hand. “That’s the spirit,” he said, “sharing is caring.” He looked over at me, standing quietly by myself. “Right?” he prompted. I made a “sure” kind of face, raising my eyebrows and pressing my lips together tightly. He smirked. Kay turned back to look at him with a smirk, and then looked at me. “Or in his case, watching is,” she said, winking at me.
Seeing the unamused look on my face, she stepped over to me. “You doing okay, boo?” she asked. “I’m fine,” I said. She gave me a peck on the cheek. “You want something?” she asked, gesturing toward the aisle full of candy. “Sour Skittles,” I replied, giving her a little grin. She walked down to the other end of the aisle to grab them, and then scanned the aisle for something for herself. She picked up a bag and we all headed over to the checkout. The girls laid the three items on the counter, and I stepped forward to pay, but Patrick nudged himself in and said, “I got it,” as he reached for his wallet.
The guy behind the counter was certainly not clean cut, or possibly even clean. His pants didn’t fit right, his hair wasn’t laying in any particular direction, and he looked like a stoner with his eyes not quite fully open. “Eight thiry-nine,” he said, looking up to Patrick who was pulling out his card. “Thanks,” I said. Patrick looked at me as he reached out to hand the guy his card. “It’s the least I can do before I fuck your girlfriend.”
The cashier, reaching for Patrick’s card, stopped and stared. I looked at him and felt my face turn red. The girls both reacted at the same time. “Uh! Patrick!” Alyssa said, slapping his arm. Kay just laughed. The cashier proceeded to take the card and stick it into the reader. He looked down at what he was doing, and then back up. “Wait, for real?” he asked, looking at Patrick. Before anyone could answer, he continued, “Which one’s your girlfriend?” he asked, looking over at me. I didn’t say anything, but Kay raised her hand and smiled.
The card reader beeped, and the guy removed Patrick’s card. “Nice,” he said, extending his arm toward Patrick, “have fun!” Patrick was loving it. I looked at his face as I grabbed my Skittles and started to turn away from the counter, and he had a cocky grin. “You can eat those while you watch,” he said. The girls both laughed as they grabbed their stuff off the counter. They were all enjoying this game of seeing how much they could embarrass me.
